Dr. M. L. K. Response
In his “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, Dr. Martin Luther King confronts the Southern (Alabama) churches’ Clergymen on the topic of segregation and the lack thereof support, from its’ institution. Dr. King claims that the Negro community has suffered tremendously and has fought and will continue to fight peacefully for their constitutional rights as human beings. Dr. King demands respect and equality for all of mankind through peace and his love of God. He covers all bases in his argument for fair treatment of all people from all races, using detailed examples of discrimination of the African American people of different ages. Dr. King speaks eloquently and boldly through peace and perseverance from a cold and lonely jail cell, basically shaming these men of God. His statements radiate with objectivity and truth and his manner is calm and powerful. This Birmingham, Alabama jail cell simply cannot contain Dr. King’s strength and spirit as it pulls the rug out from underneath these clergymen, for Martin Luther King was a brilliant man.
